Youth Action @ Hyndburn held a free Football Road show over the Easter holidays with S7 Soccer Academy of Darwen.
The free event took place 6th – 9th April and was attended by 43 young people from across Hyndburn and run by qualified coaches from Darwen based S7 Soccer Academy.
The young people who were aged 11-16 learned football skills throughout the week which culminated in Tournament Day on Friday.
The winning teams won medals and there were trophies for those young people who were Star Players and had the Best Attitudes. Each young person also went home with a football and certificate.
Bobby Greenwood, Sports Coordinator at Youth Action @ Hyndburn said: “We put on this even to attract young people to get active over the Easter holidays. We are funded by Sport England and part of that funding is to extend our football provision across Hyndburn. This was an event to get young people to learn new football skills and hopefully they will use those skills in their school and weekend football teams, and maybe some of them will now join our junior football club.”
Daniel Stubberfield, Director of S7 Soccer Academy, was a coach at the event: “The week was fantastic. The kids were well behaved and really wanted to learn the skills that we were showing them. We saw some real improvement from everyone that attended and I personally had a great time with this group of young people, who were a pleasure to work with.”
Blackburn Rovers Scout (Steve Done) also attended the road show one day to look out for potential players to join the Blackburn Rovers Academy.
Youth Action @ Hyndburn are now planning to set up a Junior Football Club for young people aged 11-16 from the Hyndburn area to develop their football skills and will potentially run another Road show during the Summer holidays.Bobby adds: “We had 43 young people attending the week every day, which is a great testament to the coaches and volunteers that attended and we are now looking at funding and the feasibility of running another course.”
